Ready To Be The Go-To Expert In Your Field?

There was a time in my career when I thought being a strong leader meant having the answers.

I was the kind of manager who would say: here’s what needs to happen, here’s how you need to do it, and here’s when I need it done. I was so focused on the result that I didn’t leave much room for people to get there in their own way.

At the time, it felt efficient. It felt responsible. It felt like leadership.

Yet over the years, I’ve come to realize that leadership looks very different from what I thought it did.

For me, it has become less about directing and more about asking better questions. Less about control and more about trust. Less about forcing outcomes and more about allowing space for people to find their own answers.

That shift didn’t happen overnight. It happened through experience: building a business, navigating life transitions, and becoming a parent.

Learning to Let Go of Having the Answers

I’m someone who naturally gravitates toward structure. I like order. I like formulas. I like data, results, answers, and knowing what I’m going to get.

So flexibility was not exactly my first language.

Yet having kids and starting my own business forced me to learn it in a way nothing else could.

You can have a plan. You can have structure. You can be clear on what you want. And life will still ask you to loosen your grip and respond to what is actually happening in front of you.

That has been one of the most significant leadership lessons for me.

Because the truth is, people don’t need us to dominate the room with certainty. They need us to create enough clarity, safety, and trust that they can think for themselves.

That applies in leadership. It applies in parenting. It applies in coaching.

And it absolutely applies in marketing.

Marketing Is Just Communication

At its core, marketing is communication.

And communication is about far more than saying the right words. It’s about how you say them. It’s about the energy behind them. It’s about whether what you’re putting out into the world is actually true.

Especially now.

There is so much noise online. So much content. So much performance. And with the rise of AI, it’s becoming harder to tell what’s real and what’s not.

That matters to me.

Because in the middle of all that noise, what I keep coming back to is authenticity.

Not perfection. Not having all the right answers. Not creating a version of yourself that looks impressive from a distance yet doesn’t feel real when people get close.

I want to share true stories. I want to communicate in a way that feels human. I want what I put out into the world to actually sound like me.

Letting Your Voice Evolve

One of the reasons I think about marketing as an adventure rather than a competition is that it evolves as you do.

When I first started, I showed up very tailored. As I’ve grown, that has shifted.

And that makes sense, because I’ve changed.

The way I lead has changed. The way I communicate has changed. The way I build relationships has changed. Even the way I think about business has changed.

There was a season where I paused and asked bigger questions:

  • How big do I actually want this business to become?
  • Who do I really want to work with?
  • What feels aligned now?

I don’t think I’m alone in that. The past few years have led many people to reevaluate what they want, how they want to show up, and what still fits.

For me, that season led to more alignment.

And with that, a lot less interest in competing online and a lot more interest in being real.

The Power of Connection Over Performance

These days, I care more about showing up consistently, sharing what’s true, and allowing my voice to evolve than I do about trying to outperform anyone else.

That’s also why I value conversations so much.

I love meeting people. I love connecting ideas. I love those moments when something clicks, and you realize this person needs that other person I know, or that this idea could become something meaningful.

That, to me, is leadership.

Not positioning yourself as the center of everything, yet creating space for connection, reflection, and possibility within your greater network.

A Different Way of Leading

Through experience, I’ve learned to trust a different way of working.

I trust that I don’t need to force every outcome.

I trust that not everything has to feel hard.

I trust that when I get out of my own way, things tend to develop as they’re meant to.

That doesn’t mean I’ve let go of structure.

I still value strategy and care about results.

Yet I hold all of it differently now:

Less dictating. More listening.

Less forcing. More allowing.

Less performance. More truth.

And that shift has made me a better leader, communicator, and marketer.

The Real Work

At the end of the day, I think this is the real work of leadership and marketing.

Not becoming louder, more polished, or more convincing.

Yet becoming more honest, grounded, and willing to trust that what is real will actually connect you to the right people.
